Building fences - down the ages with Austin Fence Builders
“Like it? Well, I don’t see why I oughtn’t to like it. Does a boy get a chance to whitewash a fence every day?” Tom Sawyer was pretending to love painting the fence to convince his friends that it was the best thing in the world, hoping they would take away the chore from him. But there’s no pretense in Austin Fence Builders’ dedication to their job - building fences. They are committed to providing quality fences customized to their client’s requirements and love what they do! It isn’t a chore for them - it’s a pleasure to offer quality fences to their community.

Ever since man became settled enough to mark his boundaries, Fences have existed. The Bronze Age man used rocks and stones to demarcate his territory and stake his claim to the land he was occupying. The Greeks created fences or borders around their conquered territories to mark ownership. Later on, the Anglo Saxons had a unique way of building fences. They seemed to understand being environmentally friendly more than the world understands it today. They built hedges and bushes of flowers and evergreens around their land to define fields and pastures some 1500 - 1700 years back. A beautiful and natural way to preserve and protect what was theirs. Austin Fence Builders, and Fence installers Austin, TX, make it their business to create innovative and beautiful fences for your Austin homes, using traditional, modern, and rustic designs to make your home a unique and safe place to live in.
Origins of the “Fence”
“fence” is derived from the fourteenth-century word “fens” in old English. It was a short form of the word defense, so the fence from ancient times was built for safety and security and to protect oneself from external dangers. It was also used to preserve agricultural land and create boundaries between neighbors and stake ownership.
The early settlers in America could legally claim any land to be their own if they had put a fence around it. Any land that was not fenced would belong to the state. Early fences that the settlers built were of a zig-zag design called worm fences. These did not require to be fixed into the ground and were easily made from wood. As time went on, newer materials came into existence, and today fences are made of wood, vinyl, steel, wrought iron, barbed wire, brick, concrete, and the evergreen nature-friendly hedges. Coupled with fences, a fence company will also provide ornate and robust gates that complement the design of the fence and provide access and security to the home.
Some historical and unique fences
In ancient times, small kingdoms or feudal communities had different ways of protecting their land and property. One of these was digging a ditch or a trench around the ground and filling it with water. Sometimes, crocodiles and alligators protect their community from invasions or predators. These ditches were called moats, and a vast drawbridge had to be opened by the inhabitants of the enclosed area and crossed to enter the territory. This was also an example of a fence. The Great Wall of China, which stretches across 13,170.70 miles, is an enormous fence globally and can even be seen from space. The aquarium fence built by Mehmet Ali Gökçeoğlu in Turkey is one of the most unusual and eye-catching!
